The holidays feel different in the mountains. At The Haven, you can wake up above the 18th green, make breakfast in a fully equipped kitchen, head out for a winter hike or a day on the slopes, then come home to the gas fireplace and two king bedrooms.
For Thanksgiving and Christmas, the kitchen makes a relaxed holiday meal possible without leaving the condo. For New Year's, Wintergreen traditionally becomes one of the liveliest weekends of the winter, with skiing, dining, music and family celebrations across the mountain.
Wintergreen has already published several 2026-27 winter operating details and select holiday events. Some Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's entertainment and dining schedules are normally announced closer to the dates. We have separated what is already confirmed for 2026 from traditions that are still awaiting this year's announcement.

Thanksgiving at Wintergreen
Thanksgiving is the quietest of Wintergreen's three major holiday periods, and that is part of its appeal. Think mountain air, late-fall hiking, football by the fireplace and plenty of room to slow down before the winter rush arrives.
Cook at The Haven
A fully equipped kitchen makes Thanksgiving at the condo a real option. Shop before heading up the mountain, settle in, and make the holiday as ambitious or as easy as you want.
Dining on the Mountain
Wintergreen has offered Thanksgiving dining at public resort restaurants in prior years, but the 2026 Thanksgiving menus and reservation details have not yet been posted. Check the official resort calendar as the holiday approaches.
Walk Off the Pie
Wintergreen has more than 30 miles of marked trails. Late November can be crisp and beautiful, but daylight is short and mountain weather changes quickly, so start early and pack layers.
Wintergreen's Light the Night celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the terrace lighting at 5:30 p.m. Expect seasonal décor, music, hot cocoa and holiday atmosphere on the Blue Ridge Terrace.

Christmas at Wintergreen
By Christmas, Wintergreen is in winter mode. The resort's published 2026-27 lift schedule calls for skiing and riding from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Christmas Day, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. from December 26 through December 31, subject to weather and snow conditions.
Skiing & Snowboarding
Wintergreen relies heavily on snowmaking, so Christmas conditions depend more on sustained cold weather than on natural snowfall alone. The resort has continued upgrading its snowmaking system, including new high-output fan guns and infrastructure improvements for the 2026-27 season.
The Plunge Tubing
Wintergreen's tubing hill is scheduled for holiday operation during the Christmas period when conditions permit. Tickets are sold online, sessions can sell out, and the resort may release additional inventory shortly before a weekend as conditions allow.
A Slower Christmas
You do not have to ski to enjoy Christmas here. The Spa at Wintergreen is open to the general public for booked services, hiking remains an option when conditions cooperate, and The Haven is well suited to an unhurried day by the fireplace.
Light the Night returns Saturday, December 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the terrace lighting scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Wintergreen's detailed 2026 Christmas entertainment, dining and family-activity schedule has not yet been fully published. In recent holiday seasons the resort has offered special dining, workshops, live music and family activities, but we will update this guide when the 2026 schedule is official.

New Year's Eve at Wintergreen
If Thanksgiving is peaceful and Christmas is cozy, New Year's is the party.
Wintergreen has built New Year's Eve into a major holiday weekend, with extended ski hours and a history of live music, family celebrations and fireworks. The resort's 2026-27 operating calendar already confirms 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. skiing and riding on December 31.
The resort has also confirmed a New Year's Eve edition of Light the Night from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on December 31, with the terrace lighting at 5:30 p.m. The full 2026 New Year's Eve entertainment and fireworks schedule has not yet been published, so we are not treating last year's event times as this year's schedule.
Holiday Skiing: The Important Stuff
Christmas week is one of Wintergreen's peak ski periods. A little planning makes a big difference.
Wintergreen says peak holiday lift tickets and rentals should be purchased online in advance. Day-of availability is not guaranteed.
Guests of The Haven are private-rental guests, not Wintergreen Resort Lodging Guests. Resort-lodging guarantees, discounts and members-only privileges do not automatically apply.
The Plunge sells timed sessions online. Buy ahead, especially during Christmas week and New Year's.
Terrain, lifts and tubing lanes depend on weather and snowmaking. Check Wintergreen's slope report before heading out.
A Holiday Weekend Without Skis
Wintergreen is still worth the trip if skiing is not your thing, or if the weather has other plans.
- Book a spa treatment. The Spa at Wintergreen accepts day guests and members of the general public.
- Explore Nelson 151. Wineries, breweries, cideries and restaurants throughout Rockfish Valley make an easy afternoon outing. Check holiday hours before leaving the mountain.
- Take a winter hike. Wintergreen's trail network is beautiful after the leaves are down, but ice, snow and short daylight can change trail conditions quickly.
- Stay in. Cook, play games, stream a movie and enjoy the fireplace. Sometimes that is the whole point of a mountain holiday.
Holiday Planning Tips
- Bring groceries up with you. Holiday hours can be limited and mountain restaurants get busy.
- Reserve the things that matter. Lift tickets, rentals, lessons, tubing and popular dining times can fill.
- Pack for changing mountain weather. Wintergreen's upper mountain sits at high elevation, so conditions can differ significantly from the valley.
- Do not count on natural snow. Wintergreen's ski operation is built around snowmaking. Check actual conditions, not the weather at home.
- Watch the forecast before driving. Route 664 climbs sharply to the mountain and winter weather can affect travel conditions.
